Space - Above and Beyond - Collector's Edition [DVD] (Includes Pilot Episode)

**Editorial Review of "Space: Above and Beyond (BOX) (English audio)"** "Space: Above and Beyond" is a must-watch for sci-fi enthusiasts who appreciate a rich blend of character development and action. The series, often described as a gritty portrayal of a group of young marines known as the Wild Cards, succeeds in drawing viewers into its emotional core while maintaining a steady stream of exhilarating action. Unlike many other shows in the genre that often focus solely on spectacle, "Space: Above and Beyond" invests in its characters, allowing audiences to witness their fears, struggles, and personal growth against a backdrop of war with a powerful alien adversary. The show's setting aboard a space-going aircraft carrier adds to its claustrophobic tension, akin to that found in classic war narratives. Viewers get to explore the intricate dynamics between characters from diverse backgrounds, all unified by their experiences in battle. This realistic portrayal of camaraderie and conflict contributes significantly to the show's depth, giving it an edge over contemporary sci-fi productions. While some technical aspects, particularly the CGI effects, may not hold up against modern standards or shows like "Babylon 5," they are deemed serviceable and do not detract from the overall experience. Some fans even point out that the series bears similarities to the revitalized "Battlestar Galactica," suggesting that its groundbreaking narrative elements laid groundwork for later successes in the genre. The box set also features a pilot episode and various extras, including cast interviews and a documentary on the series' technology, although the limited availability of additional material reflects the show's long absence in the market. Overall, this collection presents a solid value for longtime fans or newcomers ready to engage with a compelling, if unfinished, story arc that had so much potential. **
