The Oculus Rift is a virtual reality headset that can be used for watching movies, playing games, and experiencing virtual reality environments. Although it is possible to watch movies on it, the Samsung Gear VR is a better option for that. Someone who is sightless in one eye should also be able to use the Oculus Rift, as it has a separate screen for each eye. The Rift can be used with Steam if the title has support for the Oculus SDK natively, but some titles may not work well because they expect to see hand controllers from other hardware. The effective resolution of the display is close to 360p. Although it does still work on a GTX 980, a GTX 1080 is better. It does not work on a Mac. The controller that comes with it is an Xbox One controller, even though it is not compatible with an Xbox One. Some people have had trouble getting it to work correctly on their PC, but others have had a good experience with it. The setup can be finicky, and wires can disconnect or give issues. Replacement parts are no longer available, and the HDMI cable is a custom cable that is not replaceable by anyone other than Facebook or their contractors. The headset stopped working after two years of almost no use for one customer. The Oculus Rift's deliberate choice to use a custom HDMI cable has been criticised as planned obsolescence.
